ALVECHURCH produced one of the biggest FA Cup shocks as a double from striker Danny Waldron saw them dump Cheltenham Town out of the competition in a thrilling round one contest at the Completely Suzuki Stadium.

Waldron showed Football League esque composure to slot a 19th minute opener before doubling the lead shortly after the break following Tyrell Hamilton's shot coming back off the post.

League One Robins halved the deficit in the 64th minute through Ryan Jackson at the far post and had chances to win it.

But the Southern League side, 74 places below their hosts, held on to record a memorable win for the Worcestershire side.

After an uneasy start, Alvechurch grew into the game and just before the 20th minute, they took the lead.

Waldron hassled centre-half Taylor and picked his pocket before charging on goal and showing superb composure to slot it into the bottom corner to spark jubilant scenes amongst the 1400 in the away end.

Cheltenham were rattled and they struggled to breakdown the Church defence but missed a glorious chance to equalise shortly before half-time.

Ryan Broom had burst forward and got himself to the byline before cutting it back to Olayinka, who had an age to pick his spot, but managed to hit it straight at Ashley Carter before it was hoofed clear.

The upset was on the cards at the break and shortly after it, those hopes were trebled as Waldron reacted quickest to Hamilton's curling shot crashing against the post.

Cheltenham were staring an embarrassing defeat square in the face but did pull one back slightly against the run of play when Jackson fired home into the bottom corner.

The hosts had their chances to win the game, especially when they thought the ball had crossed the line following a goalmouth scramble, but the referee said no.

Broom fired over from close range and then deep into stoppage time, Waldron was denied a hat-trick when his shot cannoned back off the post.

And then the full-time whistle went and it sparked jubilant scenes amongst the huge travelling support, including a mass pitch invasion.
