10-man Worcester City slipped to a fifth straight Midland Football Premier League defeat in a row on Saturday as a late goal from Romulus’ Umar Zaman secured all three points for the hosts.

The Roms took the lead in the 13th minute through Jack Whelan on the counter attack.

City skipper Aaron Roberts was shown a straight red card in the 70th minute following a coming together of players off the ball.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, Worcester managed to pull level minutes later as Cameron Monteith poked home from inside the box.

It looked as if City might take a point from the encounter but the hope was short-lived as Zaman’s low strike from 20 yards out found the bottom corner to hand the hosts the lead in the 83rd minute.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser but being a man down,, they were unable to force another opportunity and as such, Romulus held on.

It means City have now lost eight matches in a row in all competitions and they remain second bottom of the MFL Premier table.

The four bottom sides in the table are now nine points adrift of the rest, leaving City in a real relegation scrap.

They are back in action on Tuesday as they welcome Racing Club Warwick to Claines Lane for a 7.45PM kick-off.
