IT was a game of penalties at a wet and windy Claines Lane on Tuesday night as Worcester City came from behind to pick up a much-needed three points in a 2-1 win over Racing Club Warwick.

City went behind in the 14th minute after Romario Martin's penalty following a foul from Harry Lewis.

But it was a gutsy performance from a Worcester side looking to end a run of five straight league defeats and Billy Shaw followed up his own penalty being saved to tap home the equaliser on the rebound with 13 minutes left to play.

And then a third spot kick of the evening was awarded in the 85th minute as Marvellous Onabirekhanlen was tugged down in the box and substitute Ethan Moran slammed it into the bottom corner to hand City a vital three points.

The first 15 minutes of the game couldn’t have gone much worse for the struggling City side. A ball launched forward caused issues for the hosts and a mistimed challenge by City’s Lewis in the penalty box won Warwick a stonewall penalty.

Martin strolled forward and slotted the ball calmly into the bottom left-hand corner past Adam Harrison to seemingly continue the doom and gloom at Claines Lane.

Worcester responded well to the first-half setback. A few dangerous crosses seemed to cause Warwick some issues, but there was nobody on the end of the crosses to convert for the hosts.

The ball was in the back of the net for City courtesy of a Sean Brain side footed finish, but the linesman flagged for offside.

The second half saw the hosts come out of the blocks firing. A lovely cutback to Sean Brain looked to be a certain goal two minutes into the second half, but Warwick goalkeeper Dan Crane produced a fantastic save to deny him.

The frenetic nature of the affair was highlighted minutes later. Cameron Ebbutt’s cross from the right for Warwick was deflected onto the post, much to City’s relief.

As the minutes ticked away in the second 45, it looked to be slipping away for the hosts, but a foul on the on-loan Onabirekhanlen in the box gave Worcester a lifeline.

A rather tame penalty by Shaw fortunately mattered very little as a parry from Crane presented a gift for Shaw to draw the scores level and spare the midfielder's blushes.

Another foul in the box on Onabirekhanlen presented a chance for the hosts to end their run of defeats and substitute Moran dispatched with ease to make it 2-1, which gave the struggling City side the win that their performance deserved.
