Malvern and Pershore both progressed to the next round of the Wiseman Lighting Floodlit Cup but a much-changed Worcester Raiders were dumped out.

Malvern Town ran riot at home to Tuffley Rovers as they scored a whopping nine goals in a crushing 9-1 win.

There were seven different scorers on the night as Lewis Spurrier’s brace was added to by goals from Adam Sauntson, Jake Cavens, Ben Hayes, Joe Bullock, Joe Bates and Sam Judge, as well as an own-goal.

“We were very good,” said co-manager Stephen Cleal.

“We wanted to start the game brightly and we took the game to Tuffley and the lads were brilliant, every single one of them in the squad.

“As managers, we couldn’t really have asked much more of them really.
“The squad we have here is really strong and you can see the depth we have, which is what you need to succeed.”

Pershore Town will join them in the next round of the competition after Aidan Clark’s solitary goal proved enough for the Plums to take another cup scalp at home to Step 5 Roman Glass St George.

Clark’s left-footed finish mid-way through the second-half was the only goal of the game as Danny Janes’ side once again beat a side from a level above.

"We are delighted with the players and proud of how they performed. Roman Glass are in a good run of form, having only lost two of their last 10 games and are an established Premier side." said Janes.

"We did our homework and credit must go to Ricci who we work closely with, the details he provides, as always, are very accurate and give us that edge in terms of preparation.

"I was really pleased with how we controlled the game. I don't like the rhythm games to be unpredictable, I like there to be a pattern and for the 90 minutes last night, we were in complete control.

Whilst it was a good night for Malvern and Pershore, it was a 2-0 defeat for Raiders at Calne Town.

Karl Gormley’s side indicated where there priorities lied as they made nine changes, including nine members of the under 21’s side involved.

The likes of Captain Joe Billingham, winger Isaac Cooper and top-goalscorer Jordan Murphy were not involved in the squad, neither first choice goalkeeper Ryan Young or regular centre-half Jay Sauntson.

And it was telling in the end as a stronger Calne side proved too good.

They were ahead inside four minutes through Nick Wills before Jack Smith made it 2-0 a couple of minutes before half-time.

And that was enough for the hosts to progress to the next round and knock Raiders out.
