WORCESTER boxer Owen Cooper remains unbeaten in his professional career as he became the new Midlands area champion last weekend.

Cooper, who is signed to Frank Warren's Queensbury Promotion, picked up his first belt in what was a one-sided affair against Jamie Stewart in Telford to give him a 7-0 winning record

Backed by his loyal and vocal fan-base, Cooper produced a boxing-clinic to run away with the contest with the referee scoring the contest 100-89 in the 22-year-old's favour.

The atmosphere inside the International Centre was electric as Cooper’s fans made their presence known right from the opening bell.

The contest embodied the best of the domestic scene with neither man willing to take a backwards step, but it was the relentlessness of Cooper’s attacks that made the difference.

Cooper, trained by Malcom Melvin, was dominant throughout and landed some real eye-catching shots, none more than a beautiful straight right hand in the fourth that sent Stewart’s mouthpiece flying across the ring.

Stewart was not to be taken lightly though as he often fired back with combinations of his own that ensured Cooper stayed switched on.

It was the 22-year-old’s ability to mix up his attacks to both body and head which was perhaps most impressive.

After the fight, he took to Instagram to thank his fans for their support.

"I want to thank every single person that made the trip up to Telford to support me and will be forever grateful.

"Thanks to those who have taken the time out to message me as well.

"I want to also thank my coach Malcom and Darren Hunter for the countless amount of hours behind the scenes and Errol Johnson, BCB Boxing and Frank Warren for giving me the opportunity on such a big show.

"We had a great camp for this fight, we will have a couple of days break then back to it ready for even bigger nights in 2023.

"ANDDD THE NEWWWWW!"
