WORCESTER City Women were forced to settle for a draw on Sunday after throwing away a 2-0 goal lead at Shrewsbury Town Foundation Women.

Defender Cerys Dolloway had headed City ahead in first-half stoppage time following a corner kick and it was another corner that provided the second for Worcester as Olivia Mitcham scrambled it home just before the hour.

But Shrewsbury went up the other end and halved the deficit before making it 2-2 soon after as the home side found themselves all square having been 2-0 down only seven minutes prior.

It meant City had to settle for a point and after Kidderminster Harriers Women won at Lye Town, they went up into top spot in the West Midlands Regional Women's Football League, with City now a point behind in second.

After the match, coach Ty Patrick said: "I think it was a really good performance. Shrewsbury brought a really good game and you can see the standard of this league is really high.

"We pushed them all the way and the girls were outstanding. Of course we wanted to get that win but a point is a big one in this league and the girls are happy with that.

"The mentality we have here at the moment is that they will push every week no matter the results.

"We showed our quality today and we are really excited for what is to come."
