Worcester City FC have announced the departure of a key player.

Goalkeeper Adam Harrison has left the club to join Redditch United.

Harrison joined the Blue and Whites last season under Tim Harris after leaving current Premier Division rivals Tividale.

In his debut campaign, 2021-22, Harrison made 28 appearances and this season Harrison has worn the gloves on 22 occasions.

Harrison's last game came at the start of December, as he captained the side in a 5-4 loss at Whitchurch Alport.

He, Harrison departs having completed a half-century of appearances in a City shirt.

Announcing his exit on Monday night (December 12), the club confirmed that Harrison was approached by Redditch United, a club two steps higher in the non-league pyramid, following an injury to their keeper.

A spokesperson for City said: "Adam's performance and commitment this season, especially throughout the last few months, has been exceptional, and we want to place on record our thanks to him and wish him all the best for the future."

Staff and fans have flocked to social media to show their support for the shot-stopper.

Football secretary Kevin Preece said: "Fantastic lad is Adam Harrison, also looks fantastic in pink.

"Certainly be missed, good luck mate."

Commentator Tuomas Kousa added: "Good luck Adam going forward, been huge for us and definitely a deserved move to test yourself higher."

On the tweet announcing his departure, one fan, Alexandra Sparrow, commented: "Best of look for the future Adam.

"You have saved this club too many times and it's your time to move on."

Another, Stephen Pepper, wrote: "A really good goalkeeper obviously capable of playing at a much higher level.

"Well done Adam and thank you!"

Next up for the Blue and Whites is a trip to Shropshire to take on Market Drayton Town.

The opposition currently sit bottom of the league and are without a manager, having lost 18 times with just one win to their name so far this season.

It will mark a second outing for new City manager Chris Cornes, after their home match with Shifnal Town last weekend was postponed due to the weather.

The game is scheduled for a 2pm kick-off but with freezing conditions predicted all week, that could yet change.
