WORCESTER City boss Chris Cornes insists reminiscing on old times will have to wait until after the game as he prepares to return to former club Bewdley Town this weekend.

Cornes was a happy man on Wednesday night as he tasted victory for the first time as City manager thanks to the 2-0 win over Market Drayton Town.

But it was not long before attentions turned to Saturday, back to Bewdley for the first time since leaving there in November.

Cornes and assistant manager Ryan Rowe managed to keep Town in the Midland Football League Premier in the 2021/22 season, having taken over with the team languishing at the bottom of the table.

But it's very much a case of focussing on the task at hand with City, who remain in danger of relegation.

"At the time, I was out of management and to be fair, it came along and I was a bit apprehensive about it given where they were," he admitted.

"We thought they were dead and buried but we got through it.

"Me and Rowey (Ryan Rowe) have looked at the fixture this weekend and it's going to be tough, they still have the core of the side that we had when we were there.

"But we had a great time there and it's a football club full of good people, so we are really looking forward to it.

"But at the end of the day, we have a job to do - get three points and make it six points from six."

City's win at Drayton on Wednesday moved them three clear of the drop zone and into 17th, but second-bottom Wolverhampton Casuals still have two game sin hand on Worcester.

But another victory at Bewdley will be another step in the right direction as they enter a winnable run of games.

"Bewdley will be really tough, it's another game that we will have to be at our best for," he said.

"The run of games we have coming up is maybe quite a favourable one but we know more than most that anyone can beat anyone in this league.

"We will continue to stay grounded, take each game as it comes and hopefully start to look upwards rather than what's happening below us."
