Severn Stars secured back-to-back wins for the first time this season as they beat Team Bath 67-50.

In front of a roaring crowd at the University of Worcester Arena, Stars controlled the game and were able to see off the five-time Super League winner to earn their third victory of the season.

The visitors looked ready for battle in the opening stages, converting three early goals.

But Severn grew into the game on Saturday, March 4, and were soon able to cut the deficit through the in-form shooter, Sigi Burger.

A series of unforced errors from Bath allowed Stars to capitalise, Burger finding space time and time again as high looping balls from goal attack Grace Namana continued to tear apart the Bath defence.

Looking to get themselves back in the game, Bath’s Kadeen Corbin and Betsy Creak attempted to patiently work the ball forward.

However, Stars’ defender Rebekah Airey was on hand to intercept as the hosts went into the second quarter with a 17-12 lead.

Bath made changes in defence but Jess Shaw and Namana continued to work threaten while Airey controlled things in the defensive third.

With Stars pulling away, Bath looked to their bench with Sophie Kelly and Hannah Passmore replacing Corbin and Creak.

Despite the pair wasting no time in getting involved, Stars took a 30-22 lead into halftime.

Stars continued where they left off in the third quarter, forcing an early turnover in the goal defence before Burger converted another.

A mistake from Namana gifted Bath possession but a misplaced pass from Kirsty Harris allowed Stars to regain the ball and score once again.

Bath continued to try and be patient with their play but Airey was able to read the play well, making an important interception.

Stars held a commanding lead at the end of the third quarter, 46-32.

With just 15 minutes remaining, Bath increased their tempo as Corbin threaded a long looping ball into Creak, but the ball was met by Jo Trip, forcing another turnover for Stars.

Player/head coach Trip rang the changes to freshen up her side, but they remained composed, capping off a controlled and professional 67-50 display.
