IT is another action-packed weekend in the Hellenic League at both the top of the Premier and Division One table.

Malvern Town and Worcester Raiders both have tricky-looking matches to contend with as The Hillsiders go to Brimscombe & Thrupp and Raiders welcome an in-form Thornbury Town side to Sixways.

Malvern's very slim hopes of catching Cribbs and claiming the Premier title continue to hang by a thread, still needing the Bristol-based side to slip-up at least three times before the end of the season.

That would also require The Hillsiders to win every game and that is not going to be straightforward. Having lost three of their last four in all competitions, Malvern are in a bit of a slump and will have to contend with the league's top goal-scorer on Saturday in Oliver Barnes.

Raiders sit in third place in the table with not a lot to play for. Mathematically they could still finish in second but that would require Malvern to lose three of their last seven, with Karl Gormey's side winning all they have left.

A big long shot but either way, Raiders will want to finish the season as strongly as possible. They welcome a Thornbury side who are on a run of just one defeat in their last seven league matches, form that has seen them pull away from relegation trouble.

Into Division One and league leaders Pershore Town are into their final ten matches of the league season. They go into Saturday's clash with Long Crendon with it all in their own hands, three points clear at the top of the table.

Their main competition comes from third-placed Milton United (Hartpury University in second have played three more games than Pershore) but they are eight points off The Plums with a single game in hand.

So Danny Janes' side know that they just need to keep winning and they will lift the trophy at the end of the season, gaining promotion to Step 5 for the first time.

"We face another hurdle, another task and a different challenge," said Janes.

"We have to approach each game with care but with a ruthlessness. There are ten league games to go, plenty of points on offer and various twists and turns that can still happen.

"We have to keep doing our job, and that is simply winning as many football matches as possible. The players have to deliver again, they have to get to that level they know they can reach.

"Long Crendon have all the motivation they need coming here, they can really hurt us by taking points off us. I have no doubt they will play with no fear and no pressure, teams that come with that freedom are dangerous."
