WORCESTER City pulled further clear of the Midland Football League Premier relegation zone after a deserved 2-1 victory over AFC Wulfrunians at Claines lane.

Reiss Taylor-Randle's second-half deflected strike put the hosts ahead before Wulfs pulled level three minutes later.

But Elliot Hartley continued his recent good form in front of goal to fire City ahead with the winner 15 minutes from time.

City were in the ascendancy early on but struggled to break down a stubborn defence, and when they did, they couldn’t get past the visitors' man of the match Jake James, who put in a stellar performance in goal for Wulfrunians.

Taylor Randle had an early chance palmed away by James and Dylan Hart had another chance that was well saved by James.

Despite their first-half domination, City couldn’t convert the plethora of chances that went their way throughout the first 45 minutes.

15 minutes into the second half, however, the goal City craved finally arrived.

Taylor Randle, who caused the visitors constant issues throughout, struck gold when his 25-yard effort deflected of a Wulfrunians defender and rolled in.

But a brilliant set-piece drew Wulfrunians level barely 3 minutes later, however, after a needless foul from Lorcan Sheehan 25-yards out. Welding stepped up and curled in a beautiful effort, which left City keeper Haydn Whitcombe with no chance.

Despite Wulfrunians seemingly being in the ascendancy, an unerring left-footed effort from City’s Hartley on the edge of the penalty box restored the deserved lead for the home side.

The aerial bombardment from Wulfrunians ensued, but City held on for the three points that steers them clear of relegation trouble, for now.
