WORCESTERSHIRE recovered from losing their opening three wickets without a run to stabilise their innings before rain stopped play on day one of their opening match of pre-season at Northamptonshire.

Ed Pollock, Jake Libby and Jack Haynes were all dismissed without scoring as Northants reduced The Pears to 0-3 inside the opening 20 minutes of the new season for Alan Richardson's men.

Libby (lbw) and Haynes were both bowled by Jack White, whilst Pollock was caught by Lewis McManus off the bowling of Gareth Berg as Worcestershire found themselves without a run after 20 minutes of play.

Brett D'Oliveira (11) was then clean bowled by James Sales at 19/4 before Adam Hose came to the crease for his debut, but only scored 10 runs before he was caught behind off White.

Gareth Roderick and Libby (who came in for a second time) then put on 85 together to help Worcestershire recover and pass the 100 mark.

Libby then fell to Gus Miller for 33 off 65 deliveries and Roderick's impressive knock of 59 came to an end when he was caught by Hassan Azad off White for his fourth wicket.

Haynes then also came back to the crease for another knock but for the second time in the day, he went without scoring as he was trapped LBW by White, who completed his five-wicket haul.

At 128/8, Worcestershire looked set for an early finish in their opening innings of the cricket season but when Pollock returned for a second-time, he started to get into a rhythm.

He was joined by Matthew Waite at the crease and the pair went past the 50-run mark in their partnership to stabilise the innings.

The rain then came and disrupted the last couple of hours of play and at the time of print, Worcestershire were 185/8, with waite 26 not-out and Pollock unbeaten on 31.
