WORCESTER City are officialy safe from relegation despite losing 3-1 at Lye Town on Saturday.

Uttoxeter's 3-1 defeat to Tividale means Chris Cornes' side cannot be caught and can now relax in the knowledge they are safe.

Dylan Hart scored inside 60 seconds before being replaced in the fifth minute.

The striker volleyed home to give City the perfect start but Lye equalised through Joe Palmer five minutes before half-time.

Chris Cornes' side were closing in on an unlikely point but Ryan Bridgewater made it 2-1 with 15 minutes to go before Ben Billingham made the points safe in stoppage time.

But despite defeat, Uttoxeter's 3-1 defeat to Tividale means City cannot be relegated.

Hart struck barely 20 seconds into the encounter to give City the perfect start. A long ball from kick-off seemed to bamboozle Town’s defence, who tried to hack it away, but
eventually Evans was there to volley brilliantly into the bottom corner.

After fantastic work from City in the first, half a moment of quality from Ben Billingham levelled the encounter. His brilliantly weighted lofted through ball sent Joe Palmer in on goal, and he finished superbly.

Eventually the hosts put City to the sword. Ben Billingham, who was influential throughout, floated in a lovely free-kick towards Ryan Bridgewater, who finished past Haydn Whitcombe emphatically.

Two became three late on with Billingham at the heart of it again as a clever free-kick routine allowed Billingham to strike a beautiful free-kick past Whitcombe, who had no chance with the effort.

The defeat leaves City 17th, still a healthy five points clear of 18th place Wolverhampton Casuals, with four games left to play.

But the good news is that City are safe for another season and now, despite what has been a difficult season on and off the field, the club can begin to build ahead of the 2023/24 campaign.
