WORCESTER City have confirmed the signing of former youth team product Zaqib Hussain from OJM Black Country for the 2023/24 season.

Hussain, who came through the age groups at Worcester with the likes of Dylan Hart, joins having scored 32 goals in 34 appearances for OJM in the 2022/23 Midland Football League Division One campaign.

He has played for the likes of Worcester Raiders, Redditch United and Pershore Town in the past but has returned to where it all started for him at City.

The striker has also played under City boss Chris Cornes before whilst at Raiders and will be reunited with him for the upcoming Hellenic League Premier campaign.

"It didn’t take long for me to make my mind up about signing this season," he said.

"A local lad playing for his local club, it doesn’t get much better then that.

"That and having the chance to work with Chris again it was a no brainer. I want to play my part in putting this club back where it belongs and give the fans what they deserve."

Hussain becomes another local Worcester boy to join the club and manager Cornes is hoping the striker can continue his great record in front of goal.

"After meeting Zaq I could tell how much he wanted to sign for the club being another local lad," added Cornes.

"He had a fantastic season scoring over 30 goals and I think he can really kick on this season and contribute to what we are trying achieve this season."

Hussain becomes the second striker to sign for City ahead of next season, after it was confirmed on Monday that former Boldmere St Michaels forward and skipper Robbie Thompson-Brown has joined the club.

City struggled for goals last season so the combination of Hussain and Thompson-Brown should help in that sense, with both having enjoyed a number of fruitful years in front of goal.
