A FORMER Football League star has signed for Worcester City.

The Blues have confirmed the arrival of midfielder Izak Reid ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Reid came through the ranks at Macclesfield Town and made more than 100 appearances for the Silkmen in League Two.

He then joined division rivals Morecambe FC before his career took him into non-league with Brackley Town, Barrow, AFC Telford, Stafford Rangers and Chasetown FC.

On securing the 35-year-old, city manager Chris Cornes said: "Over the moon that Izak decided to sign for us, he’s someone that Rowey (Ryan Rowe) has played with and he knows exactly what he will bring to the team.

“He’s an exciting player whose experience will be invaluable having played league football and conference level for a number of years.

“After our meeting, he decided there and then.

“He only had is mind set on playing for the club and being a part of what we want achieve at the club".

Reid is hoping his experience will be a welcome addition to Claines Lane.

He said: "Once I heard of Worcester’s interest and met with the management and they outlined their plans it was an easy decision really.

“I’ve played alongside Rowey before and knowing the type of player he was, coupled with Chris’s style of football and ideas it feels like the right fit for me in my career.

“Hopefully with my experience I can help the team and we can build something exciting this season and beyond. I’m excited to be here and can’t wait to get going.”
