ONE of the players from the Worcester City side that famously beat Coventry City in the FA Cup has returned to the club ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Midfielder Connor Gater was revealed as a "new" City signing on Friday evening, a player who was a big hit with the club's supporters.

The 31-year-old played in the blue and white during the 2014/2015 and 2016/2017 seasons in the Conference North.

In recent times he has played for the likes of Stourbridge, Evesham, Redditch, Alvechurch and last season, Stourport Swifts.

"Having managed teams against Connor on a few occasions myself and Ryan know quite a bit about him," said City boss Chris Cornes.

"He’s technically brilliant and someone who can change games from Central midfield. With him being left-footed it adds real balance to the team.

"Having played for City during the FA Cup run he will be well known to the fans and I know he can’t wait to get started this season and I’m looking forward to working with him."

Having sign on the dotted line, Gater added: "After being apart of some great times with City in the past, it was an easy decision to return. Chris and Ryan (Rowe, assistant manager) have worked hard off the pitch and I'm excited to get started".

Gater becomes the latest experience non-league player to join City.

Manager Cornes has made a real effort in the summer to build a squad with a vast amount of non-league football under their belt, as well as retaining a lot of the club's young academy players.

City began their pre-season campaign on Saturday, when they played New Dales Vale.
