A champion gymnast and former Strictly Come Dancing contestant has visited a Worcester gym.

Claudia Fragapane was at Flics Gymnastics Club on Friday (October 13), meeting young gymnasts and answering their questions.

Claudia has won five Commonwealth Games gold medals, three European Championships silver medals and two bronzes at the World Championships.

She also took part in the 2016 series of Strictly, reaching the semi-finals alongside professional dancer AJ Pritchard.

At Flics Gymnastics Club, on Shrub Hill Industrial Estate, Claudia said: “I’m here to do a meet and greet with the children.

“I’ve also done floor routines for a couple of the squads. It’s been organised for quite a while so it’s great to finally be here.

“Seeing all the young gymnasts here is really special - gymnastics really has a special place in my heart so if I can pass on any of my experience to the next generation, that’s what this is all about.”

Claudia said she isn’t focussed on major championships at the moment, as she is recovering from injury.

“I’ve been working at my club, Bristol Hawks, and going around to other clubs doing this kind of thing with my business.

“I’ve also been going through a lot of rehabilitation. I had surgery a few months ago so my focus is on getting fit and healthy at the moment.”

Fran Taylor, the owner of Flics Gymnastics Club, said: “We’ve always followed Claudia’s career closely, and when we saw she was setting up her business Frags Gym we jumped at the opportunity to get her here.

“She’s been here for two hours working on floor routines for two of our squads, she did a fantastic inspirational speech for the children then did a Q&A with the whole squad.

“We’ve also set up a meet and greet, which we’ve charged for - but all the proceeds from that will be used to get a defibrillator installed here at the gym.”
