DROITWICH Spa came from 2-0 down at half-time to beat heather St Johns 3-2 to go top of the Midland Football League Division One table at the weekend.

Lewis Hopewell smashed home from 20 yards to give the visitors the lead against the run of play, before Jake Finnerty lobbed Spa keeper Joel Chadwick from 40 yards to make it 2-0 at the break.

Somewhat shell-shocked following a dismal first-half, title hopefuls Droitwich were facing a rare defeat and so a big response was required.

And that is what they got. The second-half was just two minutes old when Charlie Tilley reduced the deficit and when Connor Collins equalised from the spot, after a foul on Tilley, with 30 minutes still to play, it felt as if there would only be one winner.

And what a winner it was too as Perry Moss took one touch before unleashing a fierce drive from 30 yards, finding the bottom corner to complete the turnaround.

Droitwich could have added to their lead were it not for some desperate last-ditch defending to deny Collins, Moss and Roland Krol.

The Saints' only noteworthy chance of the second half fell to Kyle Jardine, who should have done much better with his free header from 10-yards out.

But the hosts held on for another three points to make it four wins in a row, a result that takes them top of the table on goal difference and still with two games in hand on second-placed Allscott Heath.
