EVEN in December with half a season still to go, Saturday's game between Corsham Town and Worcester City could yet prove to be the title decider.

The pair have led the way in the Hellenic League Premier as the top two and without looking too much into it, you would say they have been the best two sides in the division.

City won the reverse fixture at Corsham 3-2, although it was a tale of two halves and a sending off.

City raced into a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Liam Lockett, Elliot Hartley and Kyle Belmonte but a red card for captain Adam Mace for a handball on the line handed Corsham a route back into the contest.

The hosts converted from the penalty spot to reduce the deficit to 3-1, before throwing everything at City in the second-half.

Niekell Plummer, who has since left the club, scored a second in injury time, but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation as City got the job done.

It might well have been a more convincing victory had City not been down to 10 men and there is a feeling this weekend that Worcester will be aiming to prove that fact with a statement victory to move them three points clear at the top of the league, with three games in hand.

Defeat for Chris Cornes' men would make things a bit more tricky for City, but they would still be in the driving seat and so, it's a must-win you feel for the visitors.

Corsham come into the game on the back of a dominant 4-1 win over Worcester Raiders - who City play on Boxing Day -  but have dropped points in games prior to that win, drawing 1-1 with Longlevens and Hereford Pegasus.

They will need to be much better than that to beat this City side, who have won all but one of their league games at Claines Lane all season.

Either way, victory for either side will provide a huge boost in confidence as both look ahead to what they will be hoping is a successful 2024.
