FORMER Worcester Warriors DoR Steve Diamond has returned to the Gallagher Premiership.

Following the collapse of Warriors, Diamond spent time in Scotland with United Rugby Championship outfit Edinburgh Rugby in a consultancy role but is now back in the English top-flight.

He will come in at Newcastle - who are bottom of the league without a win all season - as the new 'consultant director of rugby', with current head coach Alex Codling stepping away from day-to-day duties.

Diamond was also appointed in a consultancy role with the RFU earlier this year and will continue in that role alongside his new position at Newcastle.

"Newcastle are an iconic Premiership club with a fantastic history," said Diamond.

"It is a privilege to be asked to assist in building a successful and sustainable Premiership business."

It looks to be a shrewd bit of business from the Falcons, who in Diamond now have a man who came in and did something similar at Worcester. Warriors had been struggling near the bottom of the Premiership under the likes of Alan Solomons and Jonathan Thomas before Diamond arrived.

The ex-Sale Sharks DoR led Warriors to their first-ever piece of top-flight silverware when lifting the Premiership Cup in May 2022 and there was a real feel-good factor at Sixways under Diamond's leadership.

But despite doing everything he could to save the now stricken Premiership club, Warriors went into administration in September 2022 and have not played a game of rugby since.
