A technical support engineer at Yamazaki Mazak's Spindle Service Centre has clinched a pivotal win at Northampton's Santa Pod Racers Club.

The race took place on June 30 where Jas Cordelle triumphed, securing her first-place title during her fourth race of the season.

Cordelle, who has been with Mazak for nearly a decade, started her journey as an apprentice, completing a Level 3 Foundation Diploma in Mechanical Engineering and Level 4 Higher National Certificate in Manufacturing Engineering.

Raised on racing since her childhood, Cordelle climbed up the ranks from junior leagues to the ET bike class in 2018, later progressing to the 850 class in 2022.

Now in her third season, Cordelle and her team have consistently modified her bike to compete at high levels.

Such modifications have resulted in her personal best of 7.26 seconds over a quarter of a mile, clocking a top speed of 178mph.

Cordelle finished as a close runner-up in the preceding race, but her win in the fourth race of the season helped her ascend to second place in the overall standings, with just two more races till the end of the season.

Simultaneously, she is pursuing her Level 5 Higher National Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.

Cordelle aims to participate in the American races in the autumn, following her previous competitions in 2021 and 2023.

Ms Cordelle said: "I’m so excited to have achieved my first win in this competition class and to have moved myself into a strong position with two races to go. I’ve been drag bike racing since the age of 10, and while I’m confident for my final races, it’s unbelievable to see how far I’ve come.

"Mazak has always been a very supportive employer throughout my career. It is understandably quite an expensive sport, however the help I have received from the company, along with the sponsorship opportunities, has meant a great deal to me. I’m living out my dreams and I’m very happy to have been able to share in this journey with Mazak."
