IT HAS been a great couple of months for Worcester City Amateur Boxing Club.
Firstly, Caitlyn Wise triumphed in the U19 World Boxing Championships, competing for England on November, 2.
Wise won the finals by unanimous decision over India's Supriya Devi Thokchom - having seen off challenges from Brazilian and American fighters on her route there.
On her return from the Championships, Wise said: "It was like a once in your life experience, it was just amazing. I was so emotional because I just wanted it so bad and I went out there, did my best, and ended up winning and getting the gold so I was just so happy.
"It just means so much to me seeing everybody proud of me."
It didn't take long for another triumph to come out of Worcester City Boxing Club, as Wise's victory was followed by another one of their fighters - Jay Powell - winning in the National Association of Boys and Girls Clubs Championships.
On his route to becoming national champion, the 16-year-old saw off competition from the other English competitors, before beating the Welsh national champion by unanimous decision in the final.
"The feeling, it was really great. How hard I trained and where I got to, I was really proud of myself," said Powell after the fight. "I have put in so much hard work through the years."
Two significant successes in quick succession showcases the top-quality fighters coming out of the club. Coach Mick Underwood explained the success, saying: "We make them do what we want them to do, the way we want them to box - there is dedication on both parts.
"We believe in our boxers and they believe in us to teach them the right things."
The success of the pair gives the club significant reason to celebrate.
Both fighters visited Carnforth School yesterday (November 28), in order to talk with the children about the sport and showcase their achievements.
Following this, the club will be visited next week by England Boxing to celebrate Wise's world title.
