CHRIS Cornes is aiming for a third consecutive promotion after a narrow win over Stourbridge.

City moved to seven-straight Southern League Premier Central matches without defeat with the 3-2 win at Sixways Stadium, a far cry from a slower start to the season which saw them win one of their opening 10 matches in the division.

Coming off the back of consecutive promotions it has been quite the turnaround for City who have moved from flirting with the relegation zone to finding themselves in sixth place, two points of the play-off spots and eight off Harborough Town in first.

Referencing negative comments he received during the slower start to the season, the City manager said: "It's alright, not bad is it?

"Cornes out, all of these things of 'he doesn't know the level'. Correct, I didn't know the level last year as well and that went alright didn't it?

"We just keep going, are we punching above our weight at the minute? I don’t know. But we’ve got some good players, some really good players with a great pedigree at the level.

"We’re on the right side of the result and it’s been a really good run."

In what was a thrilling occasion, which saw Stourbridge pull the deficit back to one goal with just stoppage time left, the boss added: "I feel about 65.

"I thought the second half was fairly even but we had the better chances I think. I think they deserved something out the first half to be fair, we scored early and then sort of allowed them to play a little bit and we just didn’t latch onto their rotation in midfield at times.

"Come out in the second half and we were totally different, gave them a bit of information on what I wanted, they did it in the second half and they were brilliant.

"I thought we picked it up even more after Nathan (Hayward) got sent off for the silliness. What a result.

"We probably had the better chances in the second half with 10 men. That’s a testament to my boys and how hard we worked – I thought we were brilliant."

Within touching distance of the play-off positions, Cornes revealed he was targetting a third consecutive promotion.

He said: "You don’t start a season as a manager – well I don’t – thinking, we will just be alright, if we stay up on the last day of the season it’s a result.

"We’re working had off the pitch and on the pitch to create that little bit of magic and who knows?

"Who knows where we’re going to be? Who knows what we’re going to do and what we’re going to achieve?

"What we will do is grind out results as best we can, put performances in and come January, February when things start to take shape, we will have a little look and if we’re in-and-around it, then we will go.

"Wherever we finish - in that top half hopefully - it will be a brilliant season. But, I want to get promoted.

"We’re just going to keep try winning games and see where we’re at come the end of the season."
