Families heading to Morrisons during this summer's World Cup football tournament can pick up a freebie for their children as the supermarket launches a special match-day giveaway.

In a nod to the classic tradition of orange slices at half-time, Morrisons will hand out free oranges to children on every England and Scotland group-stage match day.

The giveaway starts on June 14 for Scotland's opening game and runs throughout the group stages, with young football fans able to collect a free orange while stocks last.

Children can claim a free orange from Morrisons Market Street counters on the following dates:

Scotland Match Days

  • June 14
  • June 19
  • June 24

England Match Days

  • June 17
  • June 23
  • June 27

Parents are being encouraged to arrive early, as the free fruit will only be available while stocks last.

Supermarket brings back football's favourite half-time snack

For generations of grassroots footballers, orange slices at half-time have been a familiar sight on pitches across the UK.

Now Morrisons is reviving the tradition for a new generation of young fans as football fever sweeps the country.

Whether children are watching the matches at home, cheering with family and friends or kicking a ball around in the garden, the supermarket says it wants to help keep youngsters refreshed during the tournament.

The football giveaway builds on Morrisons' long-running initiative offering free fruit to children in stores.

The supermarket has been providing complimentary fruit to young shoppers since 2018 as part of efforts to encourage healthier snacking and help families reach their five-a-day.
