WORCESTER City have signed defender Mitch Roberts ahead of the new season.

Roberts, who joined Hereford FC last summer, also had a loan spell at Gloucester City and ended the season with Halesowen Town.

The left-sided defender has previously been on the books at Birmingham City, Carlisle, Solihull Moors, Oxford City, and Boston United.

As an 18-year-old rumours emerged that both Manchester City and Celtic had interest in Roberts but a deal never materialised.

Roberts expressed his excitement at joining the team, saying: "It feels great.

"I've been here for almost two weeks now, so settling in, meeting the lads, training has been tough - obviously pre-season always is.

"I'm delighted to get it over the line and be in the building working hard.

"I think the infrastructure is amazing, the lads are great, staff are great, overall great.

"I think everyone is pulling in the same direction, which is what you want when you're at a club, everyone on the same wavelength."

"I think I'm at a point in my career now where I want to play football, enjoy it but also win matches and be part of a team and a club that's pushing in the right direction."

On his objectives for this season in blue and white, Roberts added: "Promotion. It's the only thing you ever want when you're playing football.

"I want to be at a club that's pushing for something great. My personal goal is to play as much football as possible, to work as hard as I can, to play football, enjoy it but again playing my time in the team picture which is promotion."
