AMERICAN billionaire Sir Allen Stanford is trying to revolutionise cricket so that he will be able to sell the game to his countrymen.

The oil tycoon loves Twenty20 and even believes that the fast and furious version of the sport can become a world leader.

But it appears that down in Somerset they are going to go one step further in a bid to endear themselves to our friends from across the pond.

Okay, that is not strictly true, but the County Ground in Taunton will hold a baseball match in October as part of Marcus Trescothick’s benefit year.

The Marcus Trescothick Bangers will take on Great Britain’s baseball team with Worcestershire’s Graeme Hick and Simon Jones set to turn out for the man partial to a Murray Mint.

Welshman Jones is one of cricket’s most powerful striker of the ball and, being able to bowl a cricket ball at 90mph plus, will have those men playing big boys’ rounders a little worried.

But can the stars of cricket turn their hands to baseball? Who knows, but I’m sure Trescothick will be hoping so.
