BROMSGROVE Rovers manager Rod Brown has hit out at some of the experienced players in his squad and reckons they need to buck up their ideas.

The Victoria Ground club have a youthful team and Brown doesn’t think everyone is pulling their weight in the battle to climb the British Gas Business Division One Midlands table.

Rovers have blown hot and cold of late after following up a 3-1 home victory over Aylesbury with a 2-0 home defeat by Soham Town Rangers.

They also lost 1-0 to Romulus in the GX League Cup on Tuesday but have the chance to put that right when they travel to the same club in the league on Saturday (3pm).

Brown said: “I am very uncomfortable with the players because, since I have been here, we have lost six and won four. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster. I have got some technically very good players but we are not a team yet.

“I don’t think certain players have been performing and they are not helping the younger players.

“Our average age is just over 20. A young side will be inconsistent and that is what we are. I am trying to reduce the budget, to work with younger players and bring faces in. It’s a hard job. We have got a lot of work to do at the moment.”

Brown has added Evesham midfielder Leon Woodley to the squad for the weekend and is also hoping to tie up a deal for a striker. Midfielder Kevin Banner is unavailable.
