WHEN you haven’t scored in five league matches, what is the logical thing to do? Release a striker if you are Stourport Swifts manager Neil Hunt.

Furthermore, the man he let go was the last Swifts player to find the net in British Gas Business Division One Midlands — Duane Darby.

However, the former Notts County hit-man is a shadow of his former self these days and does struggle for fitness.

But, even so, when there has been no goals in 475 league minutes, Hunt needs all the firepower he can get.

“I don’t think it was working out for him or us,” Hunt said. “You can tell he hasn’t played for a few months and he wasn’t mobile enough for us.”

With AFC Sudbury coming to Walshes Meadow on Saturday (3pm), Swifts hope to secure only their second home league win this term.

Hunt is left with Chris Cornes and Duncan Willetts to lead the attack.

While Darby only scored one league goal at Swifts, that is one more than the Cornes and Willetts partnership put together.

Hunt, however, is backing his strikers to come good.

“We’ve got decent strikers who can’t buy a goal at the moment — we just need one to go in off a backside or a bit of luck from somewhere,” he said.

Swifts though, have kept things reasonably tight at the back which has pleased Hunt.

“We have gone away from home on two Saturdays in a row and kept a clean sheet,” he added.
