HEREFORD United manager Graham Turner insists he will not rush into signing players for the sake of it.

The Edgar Street chief has stepped up his search for new faces this week and hopes to have added to the squad in time for today’s big League One derby against Cheltenham Town (3pm).

Highly-rated goalkeeper Matt Murray has joined on loan from Wolves following Darren Randolph’s refusal to play in the FA Cup.

Turner, though, has highlighted the attack as a key area to strengthen and has made a striker his top priority.

The Bulls have only scored eight goals in 15 league matches this season and have a goal difference of minus-15.

United have held talks with clubs over the possibility of loaning players but Turner admits it is not a simple task.

“There are a number of considerations,” he said. “The player has got to be better than what we have, the club has got to be prepared to let him come and the player has got to agree to it.

“Very often, getting all of those three factors together can be difficult, particularly in a period when we can only take emergency loans.

“I have talked to a number of managers about their players and the situation with some of them seemed quite promising.

“But these can drag on for some time, particularly with the parent club waiting, perhaps, to clear injuries or get fixture congestion out of the way. But we will persevere.”
