OLD Vigornians produced a fine all-round performance to convincingly beat high-flying Cutnall Green in Crusader Worcestershire League Division Four South.

Put into bat, OVs’ openers Osman Fiaz and Tom Weston took advantage of a shortage of fielders.

They added 117 for the first wicket before Fiaz fell, having made 56 from just 60 balls.

Weston pressed on, adding 69 with Duncan Hughes, until he was unluckily out for 92 with the score on 192-3.

The departure of Hughes for 44 heralded a vintage OV collapse, losing the last seven wickets for just 22. Brian Lavell was the pick of the Green bowling with figures of 6-81.

Hughes and Will Smith kept the Green batsmen under pressure, reducing the top order to 39-3.

But the villagers rallied and added 52 for the fourth wicket, surviving some close lbw shouts.

Doug Arnott got the breakthrough, removing the well-set Saleem for 27.

Arnott proved too much for the Green lower order, finishing with impressive figures of 6-50.

The bowlers were well supported in the field with OVs holding all catches, including a one-handed effort from Hughes at slip, two for Tom Lea and three for Steve Poole.

The seconds picked up 24 points as Cutnall Green conceded the match.

On a sweltering day at New Road, the Sunday side completed a 81-run win over an OVs under 25s side.

Batting first, the OVs top four all contributed but poor calling saw captain Dan Wheeler run out while the same ending befell Nick Hutchings on 58.

Paul Judge breezily got to 54 before retiring and there were useful knocks from James Gommersall (30) and Lorin Arnold (31 not out) as they made 259-4 off 40 overs.

Tom Hopkins was the pick of the young bowling attack with 2-22 from eight overs.

The under 25s were under pressure from the start and once they lost Lea (8) much depended on captain Fiaz (81).

He held the innings together well but was bowled by a Phil Mackie yorker.

Alex Spring added a stylish 31 and Jac Dimmond 17 but wickets fell regularly.

James Bader wrapped up the innings to finish with 3-22 off 5.3 overs.
