EXPERIENCED forward Leon Constantine has joined Hereford United to provide much-needed firepower.

Manager John Trewick captured his first striker of the close season following the release of Steve Guinan and several loan signings.

Constantine, 31, has penned a one-year contract with the Coca-Cola League Two club and is sure to be followed by more attacking additions.

The 6ft 2ins front-man was released by Northampton at the end of last season following just three goals in 32 League One games.

However, he showed an eye for goal in past spells with Southend and Port Vale where he netted 63 times in total over three seasons.

Hackney-born Constantine has also been on the books at Millwall, Brentford, Peterborough, Torquay and Leeds as well as enjoying a one-goal loan spell at Cheltenham last season.

Guinan moved in the opposite direction to Northampton earlier this summer and former Hereford centre-half Dean Beckwith today followed him to Sixfields.
