OLYMPIC medallist Darren Campbell dropped in at Droitwich Spa High School to play his part in National School Sport Week (NSSW).

The annual event is a week-long celebration of PE and school sport that aims to inspire millions of children in schools across England to participate in five hours of high quality PE and sport each week.

Activities that took place during NSSW within the Droitwich and Worcester City school sport partnership included a festival of sport, which was organised by ‘young leaders’ for primary-aged youngsters, intra-school competition as well as inter-school tournaments.

Meanwhile, as part of the event, 200 pupils from 12 schools within the North Worcestershire school sport partnership took part in an aquathon event at Bromsgrove School, which involved them swimming up to 200 metres and running 1,200 metres.

Paralympic wheelchair basketball bronze medallist Ade Adepitan visited the school to support the initiative.

He said: “The sporting journey for many Olympians and Paralympians begins at school.

“It’s a crucial period for a young athlete’s development and I hope that by bringing London 2012 into classrooms, National School Sport Week will inspire our next generation of Olympic and Paralympic athletes.”
