WORCESTER Sixth Form College rugby team have kicked off their bid to become the first-ever Advance Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE) champions.

The college, which has help-ed produce the likes of War-riors’ centre Andy Short, have entered into the league of the top 12 rugby playing colleges in the country.

The competition got under way yesterday with Worcester losing 16-15 to Preston-based Myercough.

The league is split into north and south divisions with Worcester joining Hertfordshire’s Oaklands, Prince Henry’s Otley, Gloucester-based Hartpury, Myerscough and Moulton, Northampton.

The south division consists of Filton, St Paul’s, Truro, Ivybridge, Twyford and Ex-eter. Each of the colleges are linked to the 14 England rug-by academies.
