MALVERN Town manager Chris Palmer believes his side has “turned the corner” after going three Midland Alliance games unbeaten.

A 2-2 mid-week draw at Bridgnorth followed a 2-0 home triumph over Studley Town on Saturday to move Malvern up to mid-table.

An under-strength Malvern travel to Leicestershire Senior League side Blaby and Whetstone Athletic in the FA Carlsberg Vase first round on Saturday (3pm).

In-form striker Alex Taffe will miss the next “two or three weeks” after breaking a bone in his hand and captain Paul Edwards is a major doubt after damaging shoulder ligaments.

Lewis Skyers is training and playing for England’s blind team over the next month in a tournament in Greece as their sighted goalkeeper.

The returning Stuart Gates and Jamie Philkins were on target for Malvern against Bridgnorth as they came from 2-0 down.

Palmer said: “The cup competitions are worth a bit of money for us so it would be good to go through.

“I can see goals coming from throughout the team. When we go forward we look a threat. In the last couple of games we have not been punished at the back like we had in the previous few games.”

Other Vase ties on Saturday see high-flying Alliance side Westfields head to Midland Combination Premier Division side Walsall Wood.

Bewdley Town aim to shock Alliance outfit Coleshill Town at home and Wellington entertain Dosthill Colts.

All the games kick-off at 3pm.
