DEFENDER Wayne Daniel is hoping to make his comeback for Worcester City in today’s match against league leaders Dover Athletic.

The former Stafford Rangers skipper has been on the sidelines with an Achilles injury since hobbling off in City’s 4-0 thrashing of Dorchester last month.

But he has now returned to full training and warmed up on the pitch with his team-mates before last Saturday’s FA Cup success against Bourne.

Daniel is now aiming to provide manager Richard Dryden with a selection headache for this afternoon’s Blue Square South clash at St George’s Lane.

The centre-half said: “I had hoped to get back for the FA Cup game but it wasn’t right and I am not going to rush myself back.

“I am the worst watcher of football at the best of times so it’s been really frustrating. I had eight games and played 90 minutes in each and just happened to get injured when we got our first win of the season.

“I thought I had just strained it (Achilles) and then it looked like I had torn it so it has taken a bit longer than expected.

“If I come back I have got to be 100 per cent, it’s a bit frustrating but I’m glad to be back.”

Having missed out on tasting FA Cup action against Bourne, Daniel will now be in the frame to face AFC Telford in the third qualifying round next weekend.

He said: “Now the draw has come out and we have got Telford, it’s a great draw and I would love to play in that game but we have got to get past Dover first.”

City’s reserves, managed by Birmingham City’s community director Dean Holtham, are scheduled to visit Atherstone Town in the Central Conference on Monday.
