JAMES Walker’s fierce strike 10 minutes from time seemed to have given Hereford their third successive home win.

But substitute Wesley Thomas headed home three minutes later as the Bulls switched off in defence.

Manager John Trewick recalled skipper Ryan Green in place of Keith Lowe after the former Wales international completed his suspension.

With Danny Blanchett injured in the victory over Bournemouth, Darren Dennehy was restored to the centre of defence.

With the wind making things difficult, both sides took time to settle.

Craig King had a shot saved by Tony Roberts but, at the other end, Josh Scott had a great chance on seven minutes only to drag his shot across the face of the goal and wide.

With the Daggers playing with the wind behind them, Stuart Thurgood’s pass sent Paul Benson away. The visitors’ leading scorer exchanged passes with Danny Green but rifled the return over the bar.

Hereford survived the Dagenham pressure and broke out with Marc Pugh who sidestepped Abu Ogogo before shooting straight at Roberts.

On 19 minutes, Pugh forced the first corner of the game. The former Shrewsbury midfielder then flicked on Mark Marshall’s cross at the near post but no-one was able to get a decisive touch.

Jones and Benson clashed after 25 minutes as they were chasing a through ball. There appeared no foul but referee Mark Haywood awarded a free-kick which Danny Green fired into the wall.

On 32 minutes, a fine pass by Kenny Lunt sent Pugh racing away but the Bulls’ leading scorer seemed caught between trying to cross for Marshall and shooting and the ball drifted out of play.

Dagenham responded with a neat move down the right but Scott’s weak shot was easily saved by Adam Bartlett.

Eight minutes before the break, King’s pass played in Walker but the on-loan Southend man’s shot was parried away by keeper Roberts and the rebound cleared to safety.

With Hereford starting the second period with the wind behind them, Mark Arber came close to heading King’s cross into his own net.

The young striker then fired high and wide as he cut in from the left.

With the Bulls dominating, Walker turned neatly after receiving a pass from Green but drove his shot wide from 20 yards.

The Daggers suddenly came to life on 73 minutes with a fierce effort from Danny Green screaming inches over the bar.

Ten minutes from the end, Walker received a pass 25 yards out, turned away from his man and drove the ball through the grasp of Roberts and into the net.

But three minutes later, Danny Green’s cross picked out substitute Thomas to head in.

Gwynne almost secured victory in the closing stages when he raced on to a pass from Lunt but Roberts was quickly off his line to block.
