EVESHAM advanced to the third round of the North Midlands Vase after a hard-fought 20-17 victory over Clee Hill in Shropshire.

The Clee Hill fly-half used his local knowlege well and pinned Evesham back.

From some robust forward play Clee Hill scored a try in the first two minutes. The hosts’ fly-half then orchestrated a clever forward move to set up a converted try.

Evesham scrum-half Chris Evis timed his pass to perfection for winger Ben Holme to score a good try, which Parkinson converted.

From a scrum on the visitors’ 22, centre Matt Jaques out-sprinted both full-back and winger to score a fine try.

After the break, Clee Hill were stilfed by some tremendous Evesham defence.

Despite this, the home side managed to smash over for another try through their forwards.

Mo Parkinson slotted a penalty to make it 17-15. Then, with 10 minutes left, Holme grabbed his second score to secure a tense success.
