MARK Clyde believes he has more to offer Worcester City this season.

The ex-Wolves centre-half is easing his way back into the sport after two-and-a-half years in retirement following a persistent knee injury.

He had to hang up his boots from the professional game in February 2007 but signed for the Blue Square South club in a bid to become a force in the non-league arena.

The 26-year-old defender has impressed in his 11 starts for Richard Dryden’s side and showed exactly what he is capable of in a man-of-the-match performance in Saturday’s 1-0 win over Dover Athletic.

Clyde admits his professional days are behind him but he is making progress at St George’s Lane.

He said: “I’m still not where I want to be but hopefully over the next two to three games I can gradually return to some form that I am reasonably happy with.

“I know I’m not going to get back to playing like I did before but if I can keep improving, get my timing and everything back again, then hopefully I can push on.

“I think all the boys are buzzing because we got a win on Saturday. It’s two in a row and hopefully we can go on from there.”

The Northern Irishman’s winner at the weekend was his first competitive goal in City colours but he says he does not mind who scores if the team is doing well.

“It’s the first goal of the season for me but it’s not who scores them as long as we’re scoring,” he added.

“If I can chip in from time to time then I will do and hopefully we can start moving up the table with goals from around the team.”
