MANAGER Richard Dryden reckons Worcester City’s victory against Dover Athletic will have given AFC Telford United food for thought.

City, buoyed by their triumph, travel to the New Bucks Head on Saturday for an eagerly-anticipated FA Cup third qualifying round encounter.

Mark Clyde’s first-half header stunned Dover at the weekend and saw them deposed by Newport County at the top of Blue Square South.

Telford, meanwhile, were beaten 2-1 at home by Blue Square North leaders Droylsden and the United scouts were at St George’s Lane to witness City’s success first hand.

“They’ve come down to watch us and hopefully they’ll be impressed,” Dryden said. “People might have thought the game against Dover would be an away win and that Telford will win in the cup.

“But we are not bad and are going to go there and try and win the game.”

Goalscorer Clyde also believes Worcester are improving and can head to Shropshire in optimistic mood.

He said: “The results haven’t been great but the lads are working hard and that’s all you can ask for. In the first few games we didn’t play particularly well but we should have got some results out of the games. The last two matches, in particular, we’ve played a lot better with regards to getting on the ball.”

Dryden was quick to applaud City’s defence in toppling Dover but recognises the impact former Northern Ireland international Clyde has had on the team.

He said: “Without the goal, the last two games he’s been immense. He’s probably had one bad 45 minutes ag-ainst Thurrock, the rest of it he’s been different class whether he’s played centre-half, right or left-back.

“He’s a great acquisition for the club.”
