A CONSORTIUM looking to take control of Bromsgrove Rovers are preparing a new bid for the club.

With the Victoria Ground side having applied to be placed in administration, the group are renewing their interest. Previous bids have been rejected by chairman Tom Herbert, but future negotiations would be with the appointed administrator.

A hearing is due to take place in the High Court on Monday, October 19, called after a winding-up order was served on the club.

Consortium spokesman Phil Baker said: “We have made contact with the administrators and have had a positive conversation. They are interested in hearing what we have to offer.

“Unlike previous bids, we are now able to talk with the administrator rather than the club officials and, as a result, we hope to make better progress. Our bid will be based on the club having a wide ownership with no one person holding more than 20 per cent of the shares.

“The chairman would serve for a limited period and importantly it would be a community-based organisation.”

Herbert has also confirmed he will leave the club once the administration process begins, while Rovers would face a 10-point deduction in Zamaretto League Division One Midlands.

A statement on the club’s official website said: “One thing is for sure, Tom Herbert will be leaving this football club the day the administration is granted and he will not be behind any offer that is put before the creditors.”

Last week, more than 50 people attended a Justice for Shareholders meeting to discuss the future of the club.
