HEREFORD United produced their second penalty shoot-out victory in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy at Edgar Street.

The Bulls dramatically made the last eight of the southern section by despatching League Two rivals Aldershot in the same manner as Bristol Rovers last month.

Having drawn 0-0 with Rovers after 90 minutes, tonight’s encounter did boast more goalmouth action.

The Bulls bounced back from an Aldershot opener to level and then go ahead one minute from time only for the visitors to take the game into penalties in injury-time.

French forward Mathieu Manset was a hero on his debut, scoring one goal and then burying a spot-kick.

Keeper Adam Bartlett saved Chris Blackburn’s penalty and then saw Danny Hylton fire against the bar to seal United’s progress.

Aldershot took a 15th-minute lead through Kirk Hudson.

But Hereford dominated the possession and created better chances in a lively first-half.

They drew level three minutes before the interval with a 30-yarder from striker James Walker.

Hereford then looked set to win when Manset squeezed in Craig King’s cross-shot.

But, with just 25 seconds remaining in injury-time, Louis Soares rifled an unstoppable shot past Bartlett.

Mark Marshall, Marc Pugh, Kenny Lunt and Manset scored penalties as King’s miss did not prove costly.

Hereford: Bartlett, Green, Rose, Jones, Gwynne, Pugh, Marshall (Sonko 81), Lunt, King, Walker, Constantine (Manset 71). Subs not used: Tolley, Done, Adamson.

Attendance: 897.
