HEREFORD United and Northampton Town face off in League Two tonight (7.45) looking to put their FA Cup disappointments behind them.

The Bulls were beaten 1-0 at Edgar Street by League One Colchester United, while Northampton lost 3-2 at home to Southampton at the weekend.

There are vital points on the line at Sixfields as just two places separate the teams and a win for Hereford would further consolidate their mid-table position. Manager John Trewick felt his side acquitted themselves well in Saturday’s defeat and believes they are more than capable of setting the record straight against the Cobblers.

He said: “We didn’t deserve to lose the game. We had a period in the second-half for 20 minutes or so where we were on top and just needed the breakthrough.

“Credit to the players, they gave it their all and the least we should have had, I feel, was a replay down at Colchester. But, once again, we’ve conceded very late in the game. It’s not the first time and we need to address that problem.

“We can take a lot of positives from the performance and if we keep putting in the amount of effort we did against Colchester we’ll be fine.”

On-loan Birmingham City midfielder Jordon Mutch, who turns 18 tomorrow, is expected to continue in the team and Trewick was impressed with his debut against Colchester.

“He showed some great quality and composure,” the manager added.

“Birmingham rate him very highly and rightly so. He’s with us for the next few weeks so I am hoping we will be able to do our bit to develop him.”

Kenny Lunt (virus) is a doubt but fellow midfielder Edrissa Sonko could return following illness.
