WORCESTER City’s mission is two-fold when they head to Welling United in Blue Square South on Saturday (3pm).

Richard Dryden’s side head to Kent looking to avenge a dreadful performance in losing 1-0 to the Wings at St George’s Lane last month while also aiming to record their first away win of the season.

Welling skipper Jack Parkinson bagged the winning strike when the teams faced off on November 7 in a display described as “terrible” by the Worcester manager.

City have not won on their travels since February but have drawn four times on the road so far this campaign as they edge nearer to ending that run.

Dryden’s side drew 1-1 at Dorchester in their last away fixture and are now unbeaten in four matches in all competitions.

Welling did not lose a match throughout November and, in forward Tom Whitnell, have the newly-crowned Blue Square South player-of-the-month.

Dryden said: “We are struggling to pick up points at the moment and I am as disappointed as anyone with where we are in the league.

“It’s up to us to pull ourselves out of it. The elements came into play against Dorchester but afterwards we reflected on another good performance and, with a bit more devilment, we could have won.

“Anything is possible in this league. I am under no illusions that every game is going to be hard between now and the end of the season but there’s no reason why we can’t win this particular match.

“We are looking to extend our unbeaten run as two wins and two draws so far is a decent outlay.

“I am still convinced we have got a good squad for this league and now we have got to prove that.”

As was the plan before the Thurrock game was postponed on Tuesday, striker Marc McGregor remains poised to start the match as Rob Elvins is suspended for five bookings this season.

Matt Dinsmore, who has been playing as a wide attacker, is also missing as he attends an assessment regarding a scholarship in the United States.

But that gap could be plugged by City’s acquisition of an unnamed forward on loan.

“We have got options with the new lad coming in but we will miss Matt,” Dryden said.

“Marc has got a great chance of coming in for Rob and it’s an ideal opportunity for him to show what we know he can do.

“If we can get Marc in and around the box, he will hit the target.”
