EVESHAM’S hopes of making it three Zamaretto League Premier Division wins in a week were dashed by lowly Swindon Supermarine, who claimed victory through Luke Hopper’s 83rd-minute strike.

The Robins’ performance was a far cry from the one that ended Cambridge City’s unbeaten start to the season four days earlier.

Half-chances fell Evesham’s way in an uninspiring first-half but Paul West’s side lakced a cutting edge in front of goal.

Mark Hands prodded Simon Fitter’s free-kick past the upright and Steve Lutz had his goalbound drive deflected for a fruitless corner.

Danny Lennon glanced another delivery from Fitter off target but Matt Bulman in the Marine goal was never forced to make a serious save.

The visitors were more adventurous in the second-half as Evesham struggled to unlock Swindon’s well-organised defence.

Swindon’s pressure paid off with seven mintues left as Hopper got a touch to Stanley’s corner and gave Nathan Vaughan no chance.

Evesham: Vaughan, Watson, Hyde, Hodnett, Luckett, Lutz, Fitter (Cooper 71), Lennon (Benjamin 75), Palmer (Thomas 87), Hands, Hayden. Subs not used: Ager, Woodley.

Attendance: 106.
