FORMER Worcester Warriors player Ben Gollings claimed he "was just in the right place at the right time" following his match-winning try for England against Fiji in the Hong Kong Sevens final.

Gollings touched down to give England a spectacular 26-24 win over the Sevens specialists, this year's championship leaders, taking some revenge for their loss in last year's Sevens World Cup final at the same venue.

The match-winner described England's victory -- their fourth in a row at this tournament -- as crucial to their hopes of winning a maiden IRB Sevens title this year. England are now just six points behind Fiji, 96 to 90, in the standings after five of the eight tournaments.

"It wasn't major, I was just in the right place at the right time," said Gollings. "David Strettle got the ball to me and he created the opportunity for us to win.

"The victory is massive, and it is very crucial in the context that it narrows the gap between us and Fiji at the top of the standings.

"We were disappointed at not getting the gold medal in the Commonwealth Games last week and this definitely makes up for it. Hong Kong is the biggest Sevens tournament in the world."

England went ahead 19-7 by half-time, before the Fijians seized the initiative, scoring three tries in the second-half to go into the final seconds 24-19 ahead.

But Gollings, who reclaimed his try-scoring record from South Africa's Fabian Juries, had the final say. His follow-up conversion, the easiest of the night, gave England a famous victory and set the 40,000 crowd for a night of partying.

Gollings was more than just a one-try hero. He was the tournament's highest scorer with 65 points and is the IRB Sevens' top try-scorer with 133. He also tops the all-time points-scoring table for the IRB Sevens, taking his tally to 1,467.
