SWIMMERS from clubs throughout Worcestershire are taking part in the Cheestrings National Age Group Championships to find this year's most promising young swimmers.

The Worcestershire Championship took place in Worcester and swimmers aged between nine and 16 turned out in force from clubs throughout the county.

Also awarded were the BAGCAT -- British Age Group Category -- trophies. These gold, sliver and bronze awards are won by the three highest scoring competitors in each age group.

Some of the winners from the county championships, who have swum regional qualifying times will then compete at regional championship level. Those who make the medal positions will compete in the national finals in July.

Rachel Lane won gold medals in the 13 years 50m and 100m backstroke and in the 200m freestyle. She also won bronze in the 50m and 100m butterfly.

Zoe Turner won gold in the 15 years 50m butterfly, silver in the 200m freestyle and bronze in the 200m butterfly.

Hayley Weaver won silver in the 15 years 50m and 100m butterfly and bronze in the 200m butterfly.

Elaina Williams won silver in the 14 years 400m medley and bronze in both the 100m butterfly and 200m freestyle competitions.
