BISHOP Perowne High School hosted a successful Worcester League Championships which attracted a smaller entry than the previous year.

John Stalker and Ian Bell were by far the busiest players, playing 20 games and 18 respectively.

Nine-year-old Michael Siket played exceptionally well on the day, beating Bill Smith 11-5, 11-7, 11-7 in the men's singles.

Siket just lost to the experienced Darkie Reynolds 15-17, 7-11, 10-12 and to Division One player Wayne Chopping 9-11, 7-11, 7-11.

The four men's singles semi-finals, to be played on finals night, will be Lewis Siket versus Bell and Mark Fiddian against Chopping.

The veterans' singles final pairs Bell and Stalker who was runner-up last year.

In the intermediate singles, there were some close games. Jamie Mills emerged the winner, beating younger brother Samuel 11-6, 15-13, 11-6 and Michael Siket 11-3, 11-6, 13-11.

Samuel Mills had three close games against Michael Siket, losing 9-11, 8-11, 9-11.

The men's doubles saw some close semi-finals with Fiddian and Chopping struggling to beat Stalker and Brett Brining in five sets 9-11, 11-9, 11-6, 8-11, 11-6.

In the other half, Lewis Siket and son Michael beat Bell and David Elliott 11-6, 11-5, 9-11, 11-8.

The mixed doubles final saw title-holders Fiddian and Janet Hunt beat Bell and Beryl Shammon 11-9, 8-11, 12-10, 11-4.

Bell won the Division Two title with John Cawthra runner-up.

And Steve Mills beat Brining in five sets in the final of the Division Three/Four Championship.

Stalker again won the veteran singles handicap competition, beating Reynolds 18-21, 21-11, 21-9 in the final.

The veterans' doubles final will see Elliott and Brian Ovington take on Steve Mills and Stuart Richardson.

The Tyler Cup attracted 20 entries with handicaps ranging from scratch to +12 up to 21.

The final saw Fiddian (scratch) retain the title he won last year, beating Stalker (+7) 21-16, 22-20 in a thrilling match.

In the Charities Doubles, the final will be Brining and Steve Mills versus Stalker and Richard Cullis.

Finals night and the presentation of all league trophies will be at Christopher Whitehead's, Bromwich Road, Worcester, on Saturday, April 22, starting at 7pm.
