EVESHAM'S Simon Andrews moved up to ninth place in the British Supersports Championship at Snetterton.

The Piranha Racing rider finished in seventh place in the Supersports race on his Yamaha R6.

Piranha are still to find the optimum setting for getting the R6 off the start line with the front pack, so Andrews dropped back to 12th place after the first bend.

Once again, he found himself fighting to make his way through the slower riders, although once through, the battle was on for fifth place.

At the chequered flag, Andrews was pipped on the line by Leon Camier and Stuart Easton to take seventh spot.

On the same weekend, Andrews had an offer to ride the Jentin Yamaha R1 Superbike.

The target was for Andrews to achieve the top 20, but early indications showed he was producing very fast lap times.

He moved from 19th in the first session to 10th in the second session and third in the final practice session.

Qualifying in ninth position for the Superbikes, Andrews then set the fastest time through the speed trap on the rear straight at 172mph during Sunday's morning warm-up.

During the second lap of race one, Andrews was overtaken by Glen Richards, who braked so hard through the `S' bends he scrubbed off his corner speed to make the turn.

This manoevure forced his bike upright and sent Andrews onto the grass and out of the race.

The Jentin R1 Superbike was too damaged to be repaired in time for the second race.

Despite this, ITV interviewed Andrews on the grid before the start of the second race and the whole weekend created an enormous amount of interest for both teams.

The weekend certainly was one to remember and Andrews proved that the Yamaha R1 Superbike is competitive and suits his style of riding.
