THERE was disappointment for Worcester's Marc Evans and the Welsh team at the World Eight-ball Pool Federation Championships in Blackpool.

While Evans exited the men's singles competition to Belgium's David Verey at the first qualifying round stage in a 7-5 defeat, the 28-year-old did help Wales to the team semi-finals.

They won 11 out of their 12 group games but then lost 11-10 in the last four to Malta who were beaten 8-4 by the Republic of Ireland in the final.

Evans said: "I was glad I went to the championships as it was completely different to anything I've done before.

"I got to play against players from other countries like Australia and Kenya.

"In my singles match, my opponent was a decent player but I felt as though I should have won the match. Everyone was striving towards winning the team event."

Evans prepares for September's home internationals with the Welsh squad.
