THE form book might have suggested Cutnall Green Second XI were on a hiding to nothing at table-topping Feckenham but they emerged from the match with a nine-wicket victory and our Team of the Week award.

Green were eight places behind their opponents in Worcestershire League Division Three North going into the match but outplayed them with both bat and ball.

Batting first on a good wicket, Feckenham were bowled out for 161, with medium-pacer Andrew Willis producing his best-ever figures of 8-80.

"He was just very, very accurate," said Cutnall Green vice-captain Rob Turner. "He was on the spot all the time and got people out.

"He bowled the whole day from one end and must have bowled 20 overs."

But despite Willis' superb efforts with the ball, the hosts still managed to set a reasonable target.

"It was a flatish wicket with nice even bounce," said Turner. "Fecken-ham is a smashing place to play and you've got the church bells as well.

"A lot of their players chipped in with little scores and 161 isn't bad."

Green then made the most of the friendly conditions and overcame their target for the loss of only one wicket.

Turner and Brian Lavell opened the batting and while the former made an unbeaten 36, it was Lavell who took the attack to the bowlers.

"He set about them and just smashed them to all corners of the ground," said Turner. "We just found ourselves in a great position."

Lavell was eventually out for 60 but his side eased to victory and 20 points.

The team win a box of six Fearnley cricket balls valued at £90.
